Description
A Hermitage of Her Own is the first book in The Adventures at Lily Creek series, an exciting historical fiction for middle-grade readers set in Shenandoah, Virginia. The beloved main character, Gemma Porter, is imaginative, strong-willed, and constantly searching for adventure beyond her sleepy rural town. She relies deeply on her Catholic faith and her conscience to guide her through the mischief she often finds herself in.
A Hermitage of Her Own tells the tale of Gemma and her friend Clare, along with two unsuspecting boys who discover more than they could ever have imagined in the woods at Lily Creek. The story also weaves the Catholic history of the Brent Family, the first English Catholic settlers in Virginia, along with the circuit riders who brought Mass to them and many other historical facts that paved the way for the free practice of our faith in Virginia today! Inspired by the hermitage created by St. Rose of Lima, in her backyard, A Hermitage of Her Own, weaves the tapestry of saints such as Rose and Sts. Francis and Clare, whose stories also stem from a small chapel in the wilderness.
